MCI holds monthly meetings to provide updates on our efforts and educate our members about community issues.

Past Meetings
For our September 12, 2023 meeting, guest presenter from UMOS, Morelia Blanco Rincón joined us to talk about community training on human trafficking, direct support services to victims of human trafficking and advocacy. For our August 8, 2023 meeting, guest presenters from Gold Coast Candy joined us to talk about their amazing business. Yaw Asare, originally from Ghana, and Orson Fournillier, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, now call Wisconsin home and are working towards bringing their Ghanan-inspired treats to customers all over the world. For our June 13, 2023 meeting, guest presenter Amanda Martinez from Kids Forward joined us to talk about her organization and how they do policy advocacy work across Wisconsin. Amanda also provided an overview of the organization’s history and its mission to promote access to opportunity for every kid, family and community in Wisconsin, especially those of color and furthest from opportunity.
We were also joined by guest speaker Cainan Davenport, a.k.a K the Barber, from Taperz Barber Shop. Cainan spoke about his small business and excellent team of hairstylists who specialize in different hair textures!
For our May 9, 2023 meeting, guest presenter Julia Garvey from Partnership Community Health Center joined us to talk about the Medicaid renewal “Unwinding” period. Julia discussed what people need to do during their renewal period, options for people who are no longer elegible for Medicaid, and how to spread the word about the renewal period with free resources, tools, and creative ideas.
We were also joined by guest speaker William Green from Fox City Flix. William spoke about his small business which specializes in movie projection, indoors and outdoors!
For our April 11, 2023 meeting, guest presenters from Goodwill NCW, Fox Valley Technical College and Rawhide Youth Services joined us to talk about a comprehensive career-training program called Career EXCELerate. The program is free to individuals who continue to face ongoing challenges from the pandemic and who want an opportunity to earn an educational certificate to launch a lasting career.
This project is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number SLFRP0135 awarded to Goodwill via the Wisconsin Workforce Innovation Grant Program by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
For our March 14, 2023 meeting, guests Fanni Xie and Lindsay Roake from Northeast Wisconsin Chinese Association informed us about their work in our community.

Watch the video of the February meeting featuring David Ramirez. David works in the Community Affairs Department at the Mexican Consulate located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He shares about the services that they offer and the Hispanic community in the Tri-County region.

2-1-1 of United Way Fox Cities
David Armstrong, executive director of Barron County Economic Development Corporation, joined our September meeting to share how his county welcomes refugees.
Barron County’s approach to immigration has not only improved the county’s economic development, but has also enriched their social community as well.
July 21, 2022 Meeting
Sadie DiNatale Burda, Principal Planner with Outagamie County, presented a report in June of 2022 which you can find by visiting this link: Housing Strategy.
Sadie provided an overview of the Fox Cities/Greater Outagamie County Housing Strategy that was recently prepared to help address the region’s housing needs. July 12, 2022 Meeting
Watch the video of July’s meeting featuring Sal Martinez, CEO of Employment Connection. Employment Connections assists individuals with limited opportunities to self-sufficiency. The agency currently serves over 2,000 clients on an annual basis; including justice involved individuals, single mothers with children, military veterans and the unhoused.
April 20, 2022 Meeting
Our April meeting featured John Semahoro who arrived to Appleton after more than 15 years in a refugee camp. Watch the recording of his presentation to our group.
