Community Meetings

Caring for our community requires the cooperation of many groups, organizations and companies. 

MCI holds monthly meetings to provide updates on our efforts and educate our members about community issues.

Past Meetings

March 28, 2024 Meeting

Our March 28, 2024 meeting was held virtually via Teams, featuring guest presenters from Hope & Help Together. Hope and Help Together team members Hilary Haskell, Chantal B Baseke, and Sarah Clarke share how the organization works to serve newcomers– largely refugee and immigrants– to the Fox Valley region.

February 22, 2024 Meeting

Our February 22, 2024 meeting was held at the Fox Valley Technical College and virtually, featuring guest presenter Sheng Lee Yang (she/her), Executive Director of Us 2 Behavioral Health Care. Sheng informed us about the history of Us 2 and the meaning of culture.

January 25, 2024 Meeting

For our January 25, 2024 meeting, guest presenter Faith Roska of People of Progression presented to us findings from their study of policing disparities in Outagamie County. 

December 12, 2023 Meeting

For our December 12, 2023 meeting, we had multiple guest presenters including Zak Van Ooyen, Charles E Sepers Jr, Kristine Hutter, Natalie Vandeveld, and Doug Gieryn representing our local Tri-County health departments. Thank you to Fox Valley Technical College for hosting us!

November 14, 2023 Meeting

For our November 14, 2023 meeting, guest presenter Sheri Fetting of Appleton ABC (A Better Chance), presented to the MCC about ABC. We were so excited to hear from her that we forgot to press the record button! In addition to Sheri telling us about Appleton ABC, we also heard from Kimyatta Ratliff from ColorBold Business Association, based in Green Bay Wisconsin.

For our October 10, 2023 meeting we had guest presenters Brian Leone Tracy and Heather Chantelois-Kashal from Fox Valley Literacy. Brian and Heather talked about how Fox Valley Literacy defines and approaches literacy in their mission to help each individual community member achieve their career and/or personal goals. We also welcomed Christina Muller from Outagamie County Emergency Management who shared about why the Hazard Mitigation Plan should be made more efficient for our multicultural community. 

For our September 12, 2023 meeting, guest presenter from UMOS, Morelia Blanco Rincón joined us to talk about community training on human trafficking, direct support services to victims of human trafficking and advocacy. For our August 8, 2023 meeting, guest presenters from Gold Coast Candy joined us to talk about their amazing business. Yaw Asare, originally from Ghana, and Orson Fournillier, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, now call Wisconsin home and are working towards bringing their Ghanan-inspired treats to customers all over the world. For our June 13, 2023 meeting, guest presenter Amanda Martinez from Kids Forward joined us to talk about her organization and how they do policy advocacy work across Wisconsin. Amanda also provided an overview of the organization’s history and its mission to promote access to opportunity for every kid, family and community in Wisconsin, especially those of color and furthest from opportunity.

We were also joined by guest speaker Cainan Davenport, a.k.a K the Barber, from Taperz Barber Shop. Cainan spoke about his small business and excellent team of hairstylists who specialize in different hair textures!

For our May 9, 2023 meeting, guest presenter Julia Garvey from Partnership Community Health Center joined us to talk about the Medicaid renewal “Unwinding” period. Julia discussed what people need to do during their renewal period, options for people who are no longer elegible for Medicaid, and how to spread the word about the renewal period with free resources, tools, and creative ideas.

We were also joined by guest speaker William Green from Fox City Flix. William spoke about his small business which specializes in movie projection, indoors and outdoors!

For our April 11, 2023 meeting, guest presenters from Goodwill NCW, Fox Valley Technical College and Rawhide Youth Services joined us to talk about a comprehensive career-training program called Career EXCELerate. The program is free to individuals who continue to face ongoing challenges from the pandemic and who want an opportunity to earn an educational certificate to launch a lasting career.

This project is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number SLFRP0135 awarded to Goodwill via the Wisconsin Workforce Innovation Grant Program by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

For our March 14, 2023 meeting, guests Fanni Xie and Lindsay Roake from Northeast Wisconsin Chinese Association informed us about their work in our community.

Watch the video of the February meeting featuring David Ramirez. David works in the Community Affairs Department at the Mexican Consulate located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He shares about the services that they offer and the Hispanic community in the Tri-County region. 

Our first Multicultural Communications Committee Meeting of 2023 features guest presenters Liz Wollenberg and Lauren Knaus of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
